Girls Water Polo are Bay League Champions!

The Girls Water Polo team had a demanding schedule with  2 tournaments over 2 weekends, and league games during the week.  The ladies fought to wins for 9 of the 12 games, defeating all of their division teams. Varsity remains undefeated in the Bay League, 9-1 in their division, and 16-9 overall. Junior Varsity is 8-6-1 and FS 4-3.

The final game against Redondo on Tuesday was a nail biter right to the end.  Both teams played strong defense and aggressive offense, keeping the score close and the fans on their feet. Costa came into the final quarter down 4-6 (Costa goals by Celeste Almendariz, Camille Lyter, Charlee Wickemeyer, and Maiken Pardon.), but the Costa women dominated the at the end of the game with goals by Dylan Reed, Leigh Lyter, and another goal by Dylan Reed to tie the game. The go-ahead goal was scored by Celeste Almendariz.

Upcoming – Varsity and JV play at home against Pen on Thursday and CIF

One of the hardest fought games was against Murrieta Valley during the SoCal Championships tournament. The teams traded goals relentlessly until the 3rd quarter when Celeste Almendariz and Charlee Wickemeyer scored goals in rapid succession. Other goals were scored by Camille Lyter (shown below), Leigh Lyter (2), Elizabeth Terry, and another goal by Celeste Almendariz to give the Mustangs the 7-6 win.

Upcoming – All 3 teams play at Redondo on Tuesday 29 Jan, Varsity and JV play at home against Pen on Thursday and CIF playoffs start next week.
