Mira Costa Girls Rugby 2026 Southern California Champions

The Mira Costa Girls Rugby team ran their win streak to 23 consecutive games and in doing so claimed the SCRIF Championship. The Lady Mustangs were never threatened the entire championship tournament as they dominated the opposition. They finished strong shutting out their last 3 opponents. The girls used brute strength on occasion as well as finesse as they showcased their skills in capturing their first SCRIF league title. While 6 different ladies scored on the day and they were supported by an extremely well coached team (thanks to Head Coach Jonah Tavai & Asst. Coach Frankie Kovach), it was Fly-half Dora Tuitupou’s day. Dora ran the Costa show on the pitch making all the offensive calls, organizing the brutally stout defensive line as well as handling all the kicking duties. It was the culmination of an impressive four years at Mira Costa. Dora, who will be playing Ivy League Rugby next year for Brown University, was the standout on the team and arguably the best player in the all high school league.

While the season is officially over, the ladies will continue to play “friendlies” and on Wednesday they will travel to Hawaiian Gardens for a friendly against Artesia HS. It will be another opportunity for Seniors Kaitlin Gautier, Savannah Swartzlander and Dora to play together again and see if they can add on to their 23 game win streak. Congratulations ladies – 2026 Southern California Champions!
