SEASON UPDATE and CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATING RUGBY SENIORS

SEASON UPDATE

The Costa Girls Rugby team is having a stellar 2025/2026 campaign, with the A Side currently sitting at an impressive 12-1 record after dominating View Park HS in their January return to the pitch. Led by Captain Savannah Swartzlander and fly-half Dora Tuitupou, who’s been orchestrating the attack brilliantly, Costa has been putting up serious points while their defense has been nearly impenetrable. After nearly a month off for the holidays, the Mustangs showed no rust against View Park, hammering out a 47-0 shutout in the opening match and controlling all 3 fixtures of the day. They kept up that momentum last week, shutting out both View Park and Fallbrook for sweeping victories in all 4 games of the tournament. With only 3 tournaments left in their season, this squad is shaping up to be the best girls rugby team in program history!

The Costa Boys Rugby Varsity team is sitting at 3-2 on the season and more importantly 1-0 in LA/OC Division play after grinding out a physical 17-10 victory over Loyola in early January. Fly-half Theo Mackaman continues to control the attack with his boot and vision, while the forward pack—led by props Colin McGinley and Ben Martin, lock Will Rusnak, and hooker Haden Pedersen—has been doing the dirty work up front when it matters most. The backline got a major boost with the return of twin centers, Liam and Luke Meeker, from football, who combined on a brilliant 46-meter try against the Cubs in their first match together. The JV squad is at a 2-1 record after shutting out Loyola 22-0.
