MUN prepares for upcoming debates!

For the past two weeks, the Mira Costa Model UN program has conducted four in-class debates and attended two outside debates. The advanced Model UN class completed two debates on the topics of Terrorism in Europe and Assimilation of Refugees into Europe. The students debated solutions on how to prevent terrorism, how to aid refugees, and how to help them adjust to their new cultures. The advanced classes have also begun debates on the topics of Social and Economic Development in Central America and the Caribbean and the Nagorno Karabakh Conflict. These debates will help students practice speaking and research for upcoming debates.

Sophomores and freshmen competed in two outside debates: South Orange County Model UN (SOCOMUN) and Cerritos Model UN. Upcoming local debates include Edison and BruinMUN. Students will compete in Edison on October 21-22, and BruinMUN will occur Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12. Thirty-five students from the advanced class will also be traveling to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to compete in an international conference.
