Boys Golf kicks off season at Ayala Spring Classic Tournament

The Mira Costa Boys Golf team kicked off their season with the Ayala Spring Classic Tournament at Los Serranos Country Club on Feb. 26th. The Varsity team placed 7th with a team score of 397. Junior Max Huggins led the team on the South Course with a par 74. Two Boys JV teams also competed on the North Course earning 2nd and 5th place finishes with team scores of 404 and 427 respectively. Junior Philip Wandel led the JV team with a score of 78 on the par 72 course. In non-league play, the Varsity Mustangs secured a 202-203 victory versus the Loyola Cubs at Rancho Park Golf Course last week. The JV team beat long time rival Palos Verdes High School 220-222 at Palos Verdes Golf Club. On Monday, March 12, the JV team competed at the Servite JV Golf Tournament at Western Hills Country Club. The Varsity team traveled to Diamond Bar Golf Course on March 13th for a non-league match versus Diamond Bar High School.

Tryout Info

Boys Golf is a Spring Sport.
Boys Golf tryouts are in Fall and Spring, and players will play 9 holes on the home course. It is recommended to have taken lessons and must be able to at minimum play 9 holes.
Season begins in January and runs through May. Players can expect to have practices/play through February Break and Spring Break. It is optional to take it as a PE class for the remainder of the year.
Players are primarily asked to play and practice on their own in off-season. The team may organize a few special events as well. Coach Cox usually offers a summer golf class at Westchester and that is a good lead in for new players or for those looking for camaraderie and more structure over summer.
There is an optional summer golf class through MB/X Summer School. Please contact Coach Cox several months in advance if you are interested.
IMPORTANT: Incoming Freshmen per CIF rules may not contact the coach until they have graduated from middle school. All inquiries prior to this time should be made through the Booster President or VP
