Costa Cross Country December updates!

Congratulations to Dalia Frias and the Boys Varsity Cross Country team who received shoutouts in industry publication MileSplit Pro!

Dalia was one of the top 5 girls in CIF regionals last year, finished 3rd in the state and competed on the Foot Locker West Region team. Great things are expected from her as she begins 2020-2021 competition.

The boys’ team, while losing 5 of their top 9 runners to graduation are projected as a “sleeper that could come from off the radar to surprise many.”

It was noted that “Mira Costa performed very well at Desert Twilight in October 2020 demonstrating significant improvement. Returning #1 runner Cormac Carew posted a huge PR of 15:19, with Colin Beale just behind at 15:23. Seamus O’Meara also made significant strides over last year, and the runners that didn’t post PR’s showed they were at least starting from where they left off at the end of the 2019 season.

Tryout Info

Cross Country is a Fall Sport.
MCXC Tryouts will be held August 4, 2023 at 8am at Mira Costa High School before school begins. This will be a timed 3 mile course with qualifying times for boys and girls
No prior experience is necessary, however it is strongly recommended that athletes participate in the summer training program. Athletes run Mon. – Fri. in the early morning prior to academic summer school. PE credit is not given for Cross Country Summer Athletics. Athletes not participating in summer school training must have other distance training in the early summer to avoid injury. Mandatory training continues through August, in the morning, shifting to afternoon just prior to school start.
Meets begin in late August through early November. CIF prelims and finals are in mid-November (select athletes only). View the 2023 Season Calendar.
Most distance athletes transfer to Track and Field in the spring. All runners continue training Mon.-Fri. after the fall season until the end of the semester unless transferring to a winter sport.
