MCHS Marching Band and Colorguard go to SCSBOA Championships plus don’t miss The Winter Concert

The Mira Costa High School Marching Band and Colorguard wrapped up their season with back-to-back tournaments on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. In the morning they performed in Oxnard’s “Keeping the Music Alive” Field Show where they placed 1st in Band, 2nd in Percussion and won the Tournament Sweepstakes for Auxiliary. After rehearsing in Thousand Oaks they went on to perform at the Moorpark “Battle of the Bands” Field Show that evening where they placed 3rd in the 4A division and earned enough points to qualify for SCSBOA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Warren High School in Downey. Out of a crowded field of 30 participating SCSBOA High School Marching Bands in the 4A division, Mira Costa was one of 12 high school bands to make it to Championships. Performing their field show, “Outside the Bachs”, the band earned their highest score of the season–82.25– and placed 12th overall. Congratulations on a long and successful season!
Santa Parade:  Even though Marching Season was officially over, the members of the MCHS Marching Band and Colorguard gathered together the day after Thanksgiving to appear in the annual Santa Parade at the Manhattan Village Mall on Nov. 25. Playing holiday tunes, the Band and Colorguard led the way as Santa and his helpers arrived at the mall. Later that night the Band got together again to cheer on the Mira Costa Football Team at their final CIF game at Mira Costa.
Winter Concert: Heading into December, band students are hard at work preparing for the annual Winter Concert to be held on December 8, 2017 at 7 PM in the Mira Costa auditorium. Admission is $10 at the door (free for students with ID and seniors). The concert will feature Holiday music by the three Concert Ensembles: Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony, as well as festive offerings from the award-winning Jazz Band under the baton of director Joel Carlson.
Jazz Band and Fireworks: Sunday, Dec. 10 will find the Jazz Band entertaining the crowds with more holiday tunes at the annual Manhattan Beach Fireworks display. Catch their Cool Yule Tunes on stage in front of the Pier in Manhattan Beach at 6 PM.
Future Events:  Looking ahead practices have started for the Winterguard and Indoor Drumline seasons. Starting in January, there will be auditions for the Jazz 2 group which will meet after school twice a week, January through May.  The Marching Band will be performing at California Adventures on January 20, 2018 and will look forward to a trip to the Sonoma Band Festival for the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony groups in March.
