Boys Varsity Places Second In SCIRF D2 Championship

The Mira Costa Boys’ Rugby Season, undefeated in Division play, hosted La Costa Canyon HS for the SCRIF D2 Championship on Friday night, February 9, 2024. The Mustangs beat the Mavericks a mere month earlier 17-7. So the boys from LCC were looking for revenge. The two sides played an extremely physical and spirited rugby match. The Mavericks took advantage of a penalty deep in Costa territory and some sluggish defense to get an early 5 points. Not long after LCC found the Try Zone again. The Mustangs finally got on the board on a 42 meter penalty kick from Fly-Half Pablo Pasqual for a 3-12 halftime score. Costa came out the second half and managed to turn the ball over deep into Maverick territory and Pasqual found the Try

Zone and converted to make it 10-12. The Mavericks added 5 more points and despite numerous attacks by the Mustangs, they were not able to break through.

Costa’s Varsity record dropped to 6-3, as they placed second in the SCRIF D2. JV’s record for the season was 5 wins – 2 losses.
