Mira Costa Choirs have been very busy this past month!

On March 13-16, Choral Union traveled to San Jose, California for the fourth annual CCDA (California Choral Director’s Association) State Conference. Out of 40 choirs who auditioned, they were one of eight choirs selected from across the state to perform at this conference. The venue was stunning! The performances were held in the St. Joseph Basilica in downtown San Jose, one of the most wonderful spaces in which to sing. They were the featured concert Thursday night and opened the concert. Their program was eclectic, elegant and tugged at the heart. Additionally, tyhe solicited the help of Billy Rugh, a famous choreographer here in Los Angeles who has choreographed for television and movies and the Angel City Chorale which appeared on America’s Got Talent last summer. Billy staged and choreographed two of the selections specifically designed for this unique basilica, which is in the round. The choreography was stunning, as was the performance of Choral Union. The choir received an immediate standing ovation and rave reviews. Congratulations to Choral Union and their wonderful performance at the CCDA state conference!

On March 26, Choral Union and Vocal Ensemble performed their annual cathedral concert at American Martyrs Catholic Church here in Manhattan Beach. This concert is an annual fundraiser for Mira Costa choirs and they present an evening of beautiful music specifically designed to be performed in spaces like American Martyrs Catholic Church. With the help of the area churches, choral boosters, students, friends, and family, tickets were sold throughout the past several months. The audience of over 400 was treated to music from the Renaissance, Baroque Romantic and 20th/21st centuries. Not only did the crowd love the concert, but American Martyrs Catholic Church was so impressed they were invited back annually to perform this concert. Many thanks to American Martyrs Catholic Church for hosting such a wonderful evening.
