MBX Flex Summer School
MBX Flex is “flexible schedule” courses allowing students to create a summer school plan that works for them and their own unique learning style. Students will meet with credentialed teachers in a personalized learning environment with a blend of face-to-face and online coursework. Students are required to meet with teachers for 20, 2-hour or 3-hour sessions for 2 semester courses (science courses meet for 3-hour sessions) and 10, 2-hour block sessions for 1 semester classes, plus proctored tests, with the option of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 teacher/student ratios.
While schedules are flexible and intended to meet your needs, MBX Flex is a condensed and rigorous academic curriculum. Students are expected to complete work outside of the scheduled sessions and come prepared for each session. Students electing 1:2 or 1:3 ratios must follow identical schedules and be academically compatible. It is the responsibility of the student to find partners for 1:2 and 1:3 ratios. MBX will keep a list of students requesting partners, however, will not take responsibility for confirming or matching compatible partners. Students who do not have partners must register for 1:1 ratio course. If a partner is confirmed, students will be moved to the appropriate ratio course.
UC/CSU A-G Subject Requirements
All MBX academic courses are accepted for credit on Mira Costa High School transcripts, with 5 credits awarded per semester class. A 2 semester class will receive 10 credits.
All MBX courses are eligible for UC/CSU approval and meet A-G subject requirements once placed on the Mira Costa transcript through Principal Certification.
If you attend a high school other than Mira Costa, you are responsible for ensuring that your grade will be accepted on your home school transcript and will subsequently meet the A-G subject requirement.

Dates and Times
Flexibility is key. Students can begin courses any of the following weeks:
- June 17
- June 24
- July 1
- July 8
Students meet with their instructor for a minimum of 20, 2-hour sessions. Science courses will meet for 3-hour sessions. While vacations can be accommodated, typically sessions will be scheduled 5 days per week or 4 days per week. In addition to these sessions, students have proctored tests and outside course projects and homework. All homework must be completed prior to the next scheduled session in order to advance to the next lesson. Students in 1:2 and 1:3 ratios must advance at the same pace. Failure to maintain the same schedule and advancement may require additional session costs to ensure completion of course. Students should be aware that Flex delivers a very rigorous, condensed curriculum. Students will be expected to complete at least 2 or more hours of additional work outside of class between sessions. Students are advised against enrolling in more than one two-semester Flex course.
Students meet with their instructor using the following time slots, scheduled in advance, to accommodate teacher/student availability:
