Woodbridge Invitational Track and Field Event – New records for Costa plus a new Stadium record!

On Saturday March 24, 2018 The Woodbridge Invitational was held at the brand new Portola High School Stadium. All first places became Stadium and Event Records and Mira Costa got to set quite a few!

In Pole Vault the Costa athletes took 3 of the 4 First Place honors. Junior Brigette Grau cleared 12’7” for a career PR and a new Mira Costa School Record and 1st place by over 2’ in the Varsity Girls competition. This was her third 1st Place this season which unofficially places her 2nd in California for the 2018 Outdoor Season.

Calvin (Gus) Oury took 1st place honors in the Varsity Boys Pole Vault with a 14’0” clearance. This was his fourth 1st Place win this season! Drew Sandberg placed 3rd with 13’0”. In frosh soph Boys Pole vault Aidan Purcell came 1st Place with 13’6” with Rory Schelly coming in 2nd with 13’0”.

The 4×100 Frosh Sophomore Boys had a 1st Place win with a time of 45.69. The foursome was made up of Casey Meyer(10) / Calvin Bream(10) / Justin Mukai(10) /   Jonathon Gill (9).   The Varsity Girls 4×100 Relay came in 2nd overall with a Season PR 49.94. Their foursome was Sara Mooney(10) / Brigette Grau(11) / Skye Davis(10) / Aaliyah Graves (12) who put in a huge performance.

Sophomore Shane Schwarz had a huge 2 second PR in the Frosh Soph boys 400m with a time of 54.70. Sophomore Courtney Canales also had a 2 second PR in the Frosh Soph girls 400m with a time of 66.54.

Junior Kamry Callwood had a double event PR in both the Varsity Hurdles events – 100H with a time of 16.86 and in the 300H with a time of 50.66. Another double event PR athlete was Sophomore Alyssa Toyooka who competed in the Frosh Soph Shot Put 25’6″ and Discus 51’8″.

Mira Costa Triple Jumpers had an outstanding day when Sophomore Brent Boone had a career PR for his 1st Place in of 41-7-.75. Junior Robert Craig jumped 40-0-.50 and Senior Ryan Pogson achieved a season PR of 39-9-00.

Sophomore Katelyn Lowry was a 2nd place finisher in both frosh soph girls Long Jump with 14’7″ and Triple Jump with 33’0″.

It was an excellent weekend for all Mira Costa’s Track and Field athletes with 24 Career PRs and 11 Season PRs. The Boys Frosh Soph came in 2nd place as a team and the Girls Varsity Team came in 3rd Place which all promises a good season of competition ahead.
